Bold opening: A fresh barrier goes up around Disney California Adventure’s Coco zone, signaling that the new attraction is moving from blueprint to build phase—and you’ll want to see how it’s shaping the landscape.
Perimeter Wood Fence Expanded Around Coco Attraction
Work on the Coco project continues to rise around Disney California Adventure, and the wooden perimeter fence around the site has grown farther out since our last update. Construction kicked off for the area in January 2026.
From our latest vantage point, you can clearly see the progressive reach of the site fencing. The wooden barrier has extended beyond its previous footprint, venturing deeper into the surrounding foliage while still stopping short of the end of the street. This roadway runs parallel to the backstage route off Disneyland Drive, a route that could be removed as part of the ride’s development.
Beyond the fence, orange safety netting extends forward, hinting at additional construction activity on the horizon. The initial phases of plant removal appear to be continuing, with the same temporary buildings still in place. Nearby, extra slats of lumber lie near the gate, seemingly staged for future fence extensions as construction advances.
The plan is for this fence to be completed before any actual Coco ride work begins in earnest.
New ‘Coco’ Attraction Details
Disney has kept specifics about the new Coco attraction fairly sparse. What remains clear is that guests will accompany Miguel into the Land of the Dead, experience some of the film’s iconic music, and encounter skeletal Audio-Animatronic figures. Visual concept art suggests the ride will unfold as a boat-based experience.
